My perfect picnic would be a meeting of my closest friends. I would take Jim, Jack and Johnny for some refreshment, Uncle Ben, The Milkybar kid and the green giant for some nutrition. Yeah….ok….i would go on my own.

Newstead Abbey is our favourite place for a picnic if you are ready to fend off greedy peacocks. Perhaps the spirit of Byron would join us, and his dog Boatswain could play with our Max. Cucumber and chicken sandwiches with strawberries to follow, partnered with Elderflower Cordial and fizz. I suspect Byron and my partner would prefer it with champagne, but sparkling water and wit would be enough for me.

I’d have my whole extended family with me – we’d go somewhere with a wide open sapce to play football or frisbee, there would be picnic tables and a barbeque area. We’d have sandwiches, salad and fruit as well as vegetarian sausages and burger for the barbequeue. To drink we would have lots of cool Belvoir cordial

Dream picnic?
I’d love a lazy sunday lunch with Sir Christopher Wren on the backs in Cambridge. It’d be good to get author Anthony Trollope and my favourite monarch Richard III along too. And who could resist a guest appearance from Colin Firth?
I reckon they’d like the traditional picnic fare – cucumber sandwiches and strawberries and cream washed down with ginger cordial.
With all that talent we could discuss everything under the sun, literally. Perfect.

My picnic would be in the Pennine countryside of West Yorkshire, which is particularly beautiful. I’d like as my chief guest Peter Sallis from Last of the Summer Wine as I think he’d know more out of the way spots than most from his 35 years of filming the programme in the area. He’d also have a great fund of stories about the cast (past and present) which would be fascinating to hear. I’d feed us on prawn mayo sandwiches made from my homemade wholemeal bread, my cheese scones, iced fairy cakes baked at home, a small selection of English cheeses with Carrs crackers, some fruit – grapes, chunks of melon (water melon if in season), bananas and apples, all washed down with some refreshing Belvoir elderflower cordial.
